As I explored the scam yesterday in this link – Scam using Craigslist promising a Free Apple MacBook – I gave them my info and signed up for text messages and phone calls of promotions. Well, within the hour I received my first text message which I promptly stopped, and then this morning I received a phone call from 419-989-6425 saying I had completed a survey (which I hadn’t) and would be receiving $50 in gifts from Home Depot and Restaurants.com. The kind lady with a smiling voice told me that the email was on it’s way! Then proceeded with a sentence that included the word “savings” so I hung up on her.
419-989-6425 where are my gift certificates?
The lady who called this morning identified herself as someone from profinity.com. It’s a credit monitoring company… cough, scam, cough… How do I know this? Well it is more than a few hours later and I have yet to receive my email with my gift cards, gift certs or whatever other leprechauns they were going to use to land this fish. How’s that for a mixed metaphor! English degree be damned!
The bottom line… 419-989-6425 is a part of the Free MacBook Craigslist scam.
